The Mapua Concert Singers

The birth of the Mapúa Concert Singers, formerly known as Mapúa Singing Ambassadors, brought forth a new side to the known hardcore technical school Mapua Institute of Technology. The new name was formally introduced on August 2, 2001.

That same year marked the launching performance of the group. The concert named TECHNOLOGY IN HARMONY was done together with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Roggero Barbieri.

The Mapua Concert Singers together with the Filipino Community of San Bernardino California, USA, have also embarked on an outreach activity on October 2002,called Balikatan Ng Mga Magkakapatid, for the benefit of the misplaced kababayans (deportees) from Malaysia and other Filipino people in need. The outreach project was made successful with the help of the ABS-CBN Foundation who helped in the distribution of the donations. On December 8 of the same year, the group was invited as a guest group performer at ABS-CBN Foundation's telethon project, "A Call for a Better World" which was broadcasted internationally.

The choir has been under the training of various conductors who gave them the opportunity to perform in different engagements both local and international. The group had a North American Tour last 2003.  At present, the choir is under the direction of Mr. Angelito Enriquez Y Ayran Jr., who earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music at the University of Santo Tomas, Conservatory of Music.

Since Jun took over, the choir has been under rigid training, performing in various engagements, in different choral festivals and competing in different choral competitions, such as Harmonies 2004, which was sponsored by UST, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (2005) College Choir Category, Metro Chorale (2006), sponsored by DLSU Chorale and Colors of Worship (2006), organized by the Manila Chamber Singers.

The latest competition that the group joined was the 4th World Choir Games, formerly the 4th Choir Olympics, which was held in Xiamen, China last July 15 to 26, 2006. The group garnered two Silver Olympic medals with two Gold Diplomas in two different categories (Folklore Acapella and Mixed Chamber Choir Category).

From hereon, the group continues to work for excellence and further accomplishments, carrying with them the name of their Alma Mater and high hopes for distinction and success.
